I still have to upload many old stuff so here we go:
This is an Argentinan Malbec red wine sorbet, made with a full bottle of Malbec, water, sugar, glucose and patience!.
cheers
I also went to Friday's in Caracas, because they have one brownie on the dessert menu there:
A smaller serving with less fuss would be welcome.
It was warm too, which i liked a bit.See, that's why the ice cream was melting on top of it.
So, to shake things up a bit a long time ago (remember i still have to
post things i did months ago) i went to this ice cream place in Caracas
called 4D, located in La Castellana part of Town (or was it Altamira?
the lines are blurry there) and it was rather empty which i liked a lot
and saw that they had a brownie offering there called just plain
"brownie flavor" so i went for it.
The quest will continue!
A while ago, i was with a hunger for something cold and sweet so i went to this (see title) and got this one:
Anyhoo, I got on that very crispy cracker 3 nice flavors: Strawberries n' Cream, Chocolate Fudge Brownie and a local version of Eggnog called Ponche Crema. It was great!
Cheers!.
A while ago i went to this restaurant called Antigua and i had this trifecta of sherbets all in one serving:
They had a variety of flavors to choose from, about 10 or so, and i chose Tamarind, Mango and White Grapefruit.
It was tart, sweet and very fresh. I liked it a lot!.
This restaurant is located in the Las Mercedes section of the city of Caracas.
Some shots of the 2nd floor, where i was seated:
This time i went to a place called "Boston Bakery", here in Caracas...so it seems that people here like to name their business after foreign cities and in another language other than spanish, I didn't see anything particularly bostonian while I was there, and the people there didn't know if the owners hailed from Boston either..ah well...
Here's the front, it's kind of hidden, i had to look around for it...
The service was ok, and it didn't take long for a waiter to arrive...granted I wa sthe sole customer at that very moment.
I asked for their Brownie, which was on the menu. The plate came in fast.
Here it is:
Not a fan of the plastic spoon, but at least it was somewhat sturdy, and the ceramic plate (which was warmed) was nice. As for the decoration...err...it's a bit messy. On top of the brownie was a vanilla ice cream and some cream and on the bottom of it and all over the plate was this very nice and softly sweet chocolate sauce. The brownie was one of the best i've eaten here in this town, as it was moist, very intensely chocolatey and it had a small amount of walnuts, it was sweet but not too sweet and it was a bit warm too, like hot from the oven (but probably microwaved). I had to ask for the mandatory bottle of water, as i usually do whenever i go bownie huntin'...
here's a closer look:
yeah, a bit messy, but it was very good in taste.!
cheers!
Here I wanted to show so
me pictures i took a while ago in Caracas, of some typical venezuelan sweets made out of coconut, strangely enough, to be that much of a "classical" and locally produced venezuelan product, they weren't available everywhere and i had to look out for some of them, since there were none available near the place where I live...you have more of a change to encounter an italian cannoli or a chocolate truffle, or any french-inspired pastry on any given bakery or patisserie than a coconut dessert here which i found strange.
Note that there are many more desserts made out of coconut here, but i only posted the ones i encountered and that could be readily bought. There's another one that's very famous called Bienmesabe, which has coconut too but i didn't find one that day.Later on, i found it but i didn't have my camera on me!
This is a type of coconut preserve with toasted coconut shavings and sugar cane:
This is a coconut candy made with shredded coconut and caramelized sugar cane:
This one is a shredded coconut sweet made with white sugar and condensed milk:
This is a sort of coconut preserve made with coconut and glucose -and powdered sugar of course-:
The place: Mérida, Venezuela. The name: Heladeria Coromoto.
Here, a list of their flavors on one of their walls:
hmmm... i wonder what Miss Venezuela tastes like?
And yes, Pato Frio means "Cold Duck":
Their many accolades, including the Guinness Records:
What did I try when i was there (this week!) :
Roses and Yerba Buena (clinopodium douglassii, tastes like peppermint)
my sister had: Entre las sabanas (between the sheets!!), red Roses and cucumber (that's the one on the right) and I had Sweet Malt, Destornillador (screwdriver!!) and red tomato (that's the one on the left):
Here, a few buckets of flavors:
and another shot showcasing the (last but not least) price list!
So what would you like to try out?
Shrimp, tuna, sweet chili, oatmeal, orange blossoms, ginger, meat, hot dog, fried pork fat, corn, cheese plantain, black-eyed beans, red wines, beer?? or plain ol' vanilla?
That would be what did I have for lunch yesterday...I tried out a recipe: Trout Meunière, i cleaned and cut the trout myself, and prepared the Meunière sauce the classic way, but i did not use any kind of flour for the fish, i just fried it on a pan until crispy, and then added the sauce. The butter became lightly browned, but i thought it might go better in both taste and smell if i used the juice of a whole lime after it browned, and the sauce became clearer, which is ok with me.
Photo, preparation and eating by myself! I took a bite before taking the pic!:
